Artisan Bread in 5 minutes a day GIVE AWAY!!!
Alright kids, simmer down, settle in, I have a story to tell you. Once upon a time there was a girl and she couldn't bake bread. She could however bake a loaf of dense brick like bread with great finesse and ease. If there was a contest for that, she would win, and dominate...no question about that. Then one day she bought a book that forever changed her life...here enters from left stage...ARTISAN BREAD IN 5 MINUTES A DAY!
No need to mince words folks, this book changed my life, and it is awesome. I went to pastry school and I took a bread class, but it was a ho hum class, and not very good...I came out of that class not knowing or understanding bread anymore or any less. I was determined to find a way that I could make bread quickly and confidently. I found all my answers in this Holy grail of cook books! Whenever someone asks me if I can recommend a good bread cook book I always start with Artisan Bread in 5 minutes a day. With this book anyone can make bread. I could leave my 7 year old niece with it and come back and find a beautiful loaf waiting to be eaten.
The recipes in Artisan Bread in 5 minutes a day go as follows, dump, stir, sit, shape, bake...I tell no lies, it is that simple. So if you are one of those people who never ever thought they were capable of making bread that was beautiful, then this book is for you. Or if you are that person who already knows how to make bread, but wishes it was quicker and more accessible...then this book is also for you. Or if you are that person who loves to eat bread, but doesn't even know where the oven is located in your house...or when I say "mix" you think "tape"...then this is also for you.
I have tried so many recipes from this book I don't even know where to start. Of course their basic boulee loaf is an all time favorite. Then the Brioche, the Challah, dinner rolls...etc, etc. The list goes on and on and on. You should just go and buy the book, really it is worth your time and money. ReplyDeleteMy hubby makes some awesome bread! I love his Apple Cider bread, sometimes he cooks up apples and makes a glaze for it too!
A&J King in Salem MA makes a good bread too!
Most bakeries in Rome do a good job of it too....=)
my favorite bread of all time is my mom's whole wheat molasses bread. It smells and tastes like home!
ReplyDeleteI make a fabulous white bread (with a little white whole wheat flour). It's basic and yummy and wonderful. The recipe is from the 1972 THE NEW YORK TIMES BREAD AND SOUP COOKBOOK. Which is a book I can't imagine living without.
ReplyDeleteThis book has been on my wish list for ages! I have one recipe from this book that I got from a friend which is my go to bread recipe. Otherwise I have a challah bread recipe from my mom which is delicious and easy. If I don't win I think I will have to buy this book.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love baking bread, but never have time to do it, so this is the perfect book for me! My favorite bread is challah and one of the best recipes I've used for it comes from the cookbook Baking With Julia, based on Julia Child's show and co-written by Dorie Greenspan.
ReplyDeleteYou will be mad at me if I win, but my favorite bread is actually Ezekiel bread - sprouted grains. If I could figure out how to make it, I certainly would give it a shot. Failing that, I wouldn't mind the cookbook . . . :)
ReplyDeleteI just had a friend tell me about this book the other day. My favorite all time bread was baguettes in france. I haven't tried to make it yet, but it is on my list. And nothing state side has lived up to it!
ReplyDeleteMy MIL makes a great challah that I love. But I think my favorite bread is the sweet rolls recipe my mother bakes for special occasions. I'm not sure where the recipe originates, but knowing my mother it is either from the Kate Aitken Cookbook or Mme. Benoit.
ReplyDeleteI adore the Brioche from this book. I swore off buying new cookbooks for the longest time and then I couldn't resist this one. I don't need entered in the contest, just couldn't resist commenting that this is truly an awesome book!
ReplyDeleteOh!!! I totally wanna win this :) I have had a hope to bake bread forEVER!!! My favorite, (and sadly, also the ONLY bread I've ever made) is Cinnamon Swirl Bread. I got it off a website allrecipes.com.... I love this recipe as I always have all the ingredients and its super easy!!! Think I'll have what it takes to bake an actual loaf of bread??!!!

Mom used to bake "Monkey Bread", which was simply dough pieces slathered in a butter and dill mixture and baked in a round bundt pan. She hasn't made it in ages and I actually have the recipe, but have never attempted it. One day, when time permits, I will try it! Other than that, I absolutely love yeast breads! Slathered in butter, of course! PPS. I hope I win! =)
ReplyDeleteMy dad's famous bread (originally my grandma's)! It has to be homemade - no store could do it justice. The recipe came from a cook book my grandma got as a wedding present.
ReplyDeletePick only ONE bread? But I love so many! Laurel's Kitchen Bread Book has been my 100% whole wheat bread bible for 5 years. My favorite recipe is the buttermilk bread. The crumb is supple and the loaf is light with a crisp crust. I LOVE IT. but it takes 4 hours so I'm up for a five minute a day alternative.

ReplyDeleteWell... my favorite bread is "pan fraces" from the city of San Miguel in the beautiful land of El Salvador. it must be freshly baked. I have no idea how its made but it is ABSOLUTELY delicious, specially when dipped in milk with a bit of coffee ^_^

Ooh! This book has been on my wish list for a very long time, I've had so many friends (and my mom!) recommend it to me! I really want to start making our own bread, but the traditional route takes so long! I'd love to receive this book.
ReplyDeleteAs far as my favorite bread? One that stands out is my mom's russian dill bread. It is made with cottage cheese, and is very moist--she bakes it at Thanksgiving and Christmas to make sandwiches with leftover turkey or ham. :)
Cinnamon Swirl from the Great Harvest Bread Company...sooo yummy!!! Wish I could make something like it myself! :)

The Viking Bakery guy brought the most delicious Swedish Limpa bread. That is still my most favorite bread to date.
